Samus Aran Cannon the start of the coolest Halloween costume ever!

By Mad_z

When I was a kid, Metroid was pretty much the coolest game and the only Nintendo game to have a butt kicking warrior woman.

Admittedly the 'Cannon' was 8-bit graphics and rendered as pretty much as 5 pixels by 3 and didn't have a whole lot of detail to it.

Over the years they have come out with (dozens) more Metroid games....each evolving the graphics to a new detailed level....

This kids project, that involves some LEDs, an arduino, sound module and some custom logic has made the coolest Samus Aran Cannon!

11-year-old Joseph DeRose decided he wanted to (cross) dress as Samus Aran for Halloween this year. So he and his dad set out to build a replica of Samus's Metroid Prime-era Varia Suit, starting with the arm cannon. The final cannon has a speaker and LED lights controlled by an Arduino microcontroller, so it can be made to fire simulated Power Beam, Plasma Beam and charged shots. Joseph even has to correctly "log in" to use it!
